Rapper YNW Melly has been denied release from jail despite testing positive for coronavirus.
According to TMZ, Melly will remain at Broward County Jail in Florida where he is awaiting trial for the double murder of his friends Anthony Williams and Christopher Thomas Jr in October 2018. His lawyer, Bradford Cohen, filed an emergency motion for restricted release claiming that the 20-year-old was experiencing deadly symptoms due to his diagnosis which included severe chills, heavy breathing, headaches, and body aches. Melly also reportedly lost weight and feared for his life, claiming that the facility does not have proper health care resources to handle the virus. He is also sharing a cell with another inmate who was diagnosed with COVID-19.
Cohen asked the judge to release Melly on house arrest so he can be properly treated at a medical facility. However, the judge feels that if Melly requires special medical treatment, he can request it from the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
When the news circulated that Melly would potentially be released from jail, the families of his alleged victims began to plead for the rapper to remain behind bars, believing that he could pose a potential threat to them and other witnesses.
Sad situation all the way around.
