Wale has just released his latest video for his single “Sue Me” featuring Kelly Price, which is the opening track from his sixth album, Wow… That’s Crazy, which was released back in October. This time around, Wale decided to make an entire seven minute short film out of the single, one that holds a very powerful message.

Directed by Kerby Jean-Raymond, founder of menswear label Pyer Moss, the moving clip imagines an alternate society where the black and white experience are reversed with Oscar nominated Lucas Hedges portraying a struggling white adolescent, who sees life on the other side for the first time. Instead of Quaker Oats there are Melanin Oats, Jesus is now black, and a billboard advertising a dating site called White People Meet is prevalent.

“Are we ready for a white president?” adorn newspaper headlines as the teen goes about his day to day life.

Hedges takes a trip to Morebucks Coffee before he is forcibly removed as Wale films the reversed racial profiling on his cell phone, an all too familiar experience in the black community.  The video closes with Hedges visiting his father in prison as he serves time for a non-violent drug offense.

“What if you could walk through a day in the life of an average African American young man? What would you see? What would you hear? What would you face?” Wale asked. “We wanted to redefine the whole narrative and allow everybody to step into these shoes. I’ve never been more proud of a video than what we did here. Kerby really brought this vision to life, and Reebok helped make it a reality. I hope it makes you think a little. While you’re thinking, stay safe and stay home!”

Wale has never been one to shy away from confronting societal matters of contention. This latest delivery is no exception. Get into the thought provoking visual below.
