Like nearly every other sporting and music event across the world, this year’s Roots Picnic had to be cancelled due to the devastating coronavirus pandemic. However, the organizers made it a point to ensure that those who were looking forward to the festival could enjoy the star studded lineup virtually.
On Saturday, our favorite former first lady Michelle Obama served as the events co-host along with The Roots Questlove and Black Thought. Mrs. Obama kicked off the musical event encouraging viewers to get out and vote. The festival also supported Obama’s nonpartisan nonprofit organization, When We All Vote.
The Roots, H.E.R., Kirk Franklin, Roddy Ricch, SZA, Polo G, and Lil Baby, who performed his newly released protest hit “The Bigger Picture,” where he takes a stand against social injustice and racism.
