The Teddy Riley vs. Babyface battle fail was the laughing stock of social media on Saturday when a barrage of technical difficulties on Teddy’s part led the long awaited Instagram battle to go up in flames rather quickly. However, their rematch on Monday proved that it was worth the wait.
The two R&B icons attracted over 500k fans at one point during the rematch, despite technical issues in the beginning yet again. Slow internet and patchy sound nearly made the Instagram Live a repeat of Saturday. Once the kinks were ironed out, the GRAMMY award winning singers-songwriters played some of their most iconic tracks from the 1980s and 90s.
At one point, Babyface even took it a step further with a live performance of his song “When Can I See You.” Teddy also stunned viewers when he dropped a TNT Remix of Janet Jackson’s “I Get Lonely,” to which Babyface replied, “I didn’t know if remixes counted in this thing.” Babyface said.
Babyface played hits such as After 7’s “Ready or Not,” Toni Braxton’s “Love Shoulda Brought You Home,” Bobby Brown’s “On Our Own,” The Whispers’ “Rock Steady,” Karyn White’s “Superwoman” and much more while Teddy offered up Michael Jackson’s “Jam” & “In The Closet,” Blackstreet’s “Deep, Guy’s “Let’s Chill,” Keith Sweat’s “I Want Her” and Heavy D’s “Is It Good to You” among other hit records that he was featured on or produced.
The two went back to back with the hits but in the end, Babyface prevailed. Dr. Dre phoned Teddy during the epic battle to congratulate him on the showdown that nearly didn’t take place for a second time.
