In a time where injustice is overwhelmingly present, T-Pain drops a new single and video “Get Up” as a means to inspire others to take a stand and make a difference.
Opening with a powerful snippet from a Malcolm X speech on oppression and exploitation, the Nappy Boy Films directed video is full of pyro, dark shadows and red and blue lighting as the Grammy Award-winning T-Pain performs. “Get Up,” produced by himself, LevyGrey and 11VN, reminds the world that “the only thing that matters is what you gon’ do when you get up.”
This song was actually meant to come out at the end of March, but I decided to switch it out last minute and release “Wake Up Dead” with Chris Brown first. We had all of the artwork and marketing assets created months ago. It’s very ironic because it all has so much more meaning to it now with everything going on in the world. I thought it was silly to hold this song. I want people to be motivated, inspired, and to continue to Get Up and push forward.T-Pain
The new song also inspired T-Pain to create merchandise to coincide with the music’s message and become another avenue of support in the fight for equality. Proceeds from sales and streaming revenue will be donated to Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice (@CSSJustice), an organization in which T-Pain has been working with for some time now that is a national network of crime survivors with chapters all over the country who have joined together to focus on building safer communities through healing as well as shaping public policies. Back in February, the Tallahassee native sat down with survivors from his home town to hear their stories and spoke at a “Survivors Speak” conference where he talked about his own experience with his niece tragically passing away.
