Charlamagne Tha God, widely known for his blunt and honest commentary on The Breakfast Club a nationally syndicated morning radio show, is now producing a late-night series titled Tha God’s Honest Truth with Charlamagne Tha God. According to Shadow and Act, the series is produced by Charlamagne, Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder, and late-night host Stephen Colbert.
The weekly series will focus on social issues in, “a variety of deep dives, sketches, and social experiments that deftly unpacks the most pressing topics permeating politics and culture,” according to the description.
“Redemptively comedic, refreshingly unfiltered, and unapologetically Black, nothing is off limits,” the description reads. “Lenard ‘Charlamagne’ McIvey is bringing his influential, opinionated, thought-provoking perspective to late night.” The series is set to premiere on Sept. 17 at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT on Comedy Central.
Charlamagne previously shared that this is the third series he’s collaborated with President and CEO Chris McCarthy. He also reportedly stated that Colbert is “the ultimate cosign” as his “South Carolina brethren” and leader in late-night television.
“[H]e wouldn’t cosign no bulls**t!” He said. “We are going to win an Emmy next year for best lighting direction I can feel it!!!”
Colbert reportedly said, “For too long, the town of Moncks Corner, South Carolina has been underrepresented in late night. I look forward to all the ways in which the fearless, peerless Charlamagne is going to change the game.”
McGruder said according to Shadow and Act that Charlamagne wants the late-night show to, “smack the audience upside the head every week and make sure they’re paying attention to the world around them.”
“He is keenly aware of the power of his voice and always looking to use it to maximum effect, which requires both talent and courage. I’m very excited to be a part of this project,” he added.
