Since its creation by mega producers Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, the Verzuz series has seen some of the biggest names in music going hit for hit via Instagram Live including Babyface versus Teddy Riley, Erykah Badu versus Jill Scott, and most recently Nelly versus Ludacris. Now, R&B royalty Brandy has revealed that the battle between herself and Monica that fans have been begging for will not be happening.
“I heard that she doesn’t wanna do it,” Brandy says of Monica during her recent interview with V103 Atlanta. “The last thing I heard is she pretty much turned it down, she didn’t want to be a part of that, but I understand.”
The two songstresses first came together in 1998 for their multi platinum hit single, “The Boy Is Mine” from Monica’s second studio album of the same name. Soon after, the two embarked on an on again-off again rift, though the exact origins of their rivalry is unknown.
While the battle may not be happening, these two ladies’ place in R&B history will forever be solidified, with or without a Verzuz battle. Catch up with Brandy in the full interview below.
