Introduce yourself to our readers! Let them know your name, where you’re from and the name of the project you dropped!

Yo! My name is Dupree G.O.D. from East New York Brooklyn. Right now we are talking about my single Wu-Tang 4 Da Children , currently out on all platforms and I’ve officially debuted the music video for that one so may sure y’all check that out.

Dupree G.O.D., you were already catching a ton of buzz as not only an artist but also as a viral social media content creator when on Nov 8 you REALLY made headlines while filming the music video for your single Wu-Tang 4 Da Children.

A video emerged of you that appeared to show you firing a flamethrower from the top of a Brooklyn MTA bus (allegedly). Tell the readers about that music video for Wu-Tang 4 Da Children. Wu-Tang 4 Da Children is an ode to my favorite group Wu-Tang. I grew up off that old school gritty and grimy hip hop. The song itself personifies an error of aggressive music and lyricism that I grew up listening to. So while making this video I wanted to pull pieces from the group’s iconic history and recreate them with my own twist as a way of bringing the old into the current. Two scenes in the music video that I recreated are Chess Boxing and Ice Cream. Chess Boxing was done in the scene where you see us in the subway– which doubles as their album cover. And then Ice Cream- I recreated when you see us with the ice cream and the champagne flutes. I wanted to make sure there was a sophisticated eloquence but still with that ratchet-ness feel to it. I wanted to bring the old school into the new school while keeping it super ratchet yet super classy. It was important for me to capture that 90’s essence while also still being progressive of what’s happening today in the millennium.

So, Dupree G.O.D. -what message is Wu-Tang 4 Da Children trying to convey?

The song touches on multiple things but the reoccurring theme is- the era of the internet and how people do stuff for the internet. The consistent theme is World Star for example and how people are willing to do crazy shit just to go viral on World Star. Don’t get me wrong, I would tell people “You don’t got to do all that” but still in the ignorance of the song I’m like – “Yo Fuck that! I’m still gonna go hard and be as ignorant as the people I’m telling NOT to be ignorant” so the song serves as me as an antagonist trying to alert people not to do all that for the internet while giving in and doing the exact thing I’m telling people not to do. There’s no doubt that the lyrics are of correlation – like a subliminal to current events such as police brutality, racism, and systematic oppression that the world has been witnessing during the pandemic.

You were arrested by the NYPD for the alleged incident on top of the MTA Bus. Looking back now- Was it worth it?

It was never planned. It’s not something you can plan. This was me and my artistic freedom and something that happened because the energy and the feeling was right. Do I regret presenting the art to the world? NO- No regrets. The energy was right. The crazy thing is the moment of people talking about it is longer than the moment that it actually happened. The media tried to make it seem like a dude from Brooklyn was wildin’ for no reason. I also feel like if this was Johnny Knoxville or say Borat- Sasha Baron Cohen- No one would have questioned it. We’re talking about artistic freedom. Let black creators create. Let Black Man express themselves and create. Ya know, we’re not hurting anybody. The media tried to make it to be something is isn’t. This is all about the art.

Cover Story:

Why did you name this record Wu-Tang 4 Da Children? It also seems that you homage specifically to Ol’ Dirty Bastard.

When I made this record with the producer and I heard the beat, it had this filthy base on it, kinda like a U.K. style base and so I told the producer “Damn, You know what would be fire? If we put O.D.B.’s voice on it this beat.” So I took the beat home, wrote one verse and was like where am I gonna take this? I went on the internet and found the dirtiest filthiest audio of a crowd doing the Wu- Tang Chant at a random show and it just felt raw. It felt aggressive. It felt like the spirit of one era meeting the spirit of next. You know I grew up with that. In that era. I’m a product of that. A child of that era of hip hop and I wanted to capture that. I’m a product of Method Man, O.D.B, Raekwon, the GZA. That’s why I named it Wu –Tang 4 Da Children.

So the million dollar question is: Did any of the members from the Wu- Tang Clan reach out to you after the alleged incident?

Actually yeah Young Dirty – YDB and I chopped it up. He actually reposted it to his page which was dope of him.

Ol’ Dirty Mural:

Where did you get the name Dupree G.O.D. and is that an alter ago?

Last year I wanted to usher myself into the new era with something more real and more towards my real life. I wanted a name that would really leave an ever lasting legacy. In high school they use to call me Dupree which is my last name. So I came up with Dupree G.O.D. which stands for Grandeur Opulence Decadence. Dupree is my last name so that’s already a legacy that I leave behind but when the mention me, I want them to remember me as being a creator who left behind something Grand, something Opulent and something Decadent. I went with my name because it’s real. It’s me so now it’s not an alter ego. This is me all the time. Dupree G.O.D. with infinite creativity

Dupree G.O.D, you have your own line of merch and you recently released an exclusive Tee shirt and Hoodies collection featuring the photo of you that appeared on the front page of the NY Post. Where can the readers find that?

Yes, that collection with the NYPOST front page of me is called “4 Da Children”. I have other merch also that I’ve put out which is also on the website so the readers can find that there. The collection is definitely growing.
