Universal Music Group is expanding with the creation of Def Jam Africa, an all new label dedicated to the best in African hip-hop talent and culture.
The label, which will be oversaw by Sipho Dlamini, will initially be based in Johannesburg, South Africa and Lagos, Nigeria, and will seek out talent from across the continent through its dedicated creative, marketing and A&R teams. Def Jam Africa is already sporting a solid roster which includes Boity (South Africa), Cassper Nyovest (South Africa), Larry Gaaga (Nigeria) Nadia Nakai (South Africa), Nasty C (South Africa), Tshego (South Africa), Tellaman (South Africa), Ricky Tyler (South Africa) and Vector (Nigeria).
“It is a historic achievement that we’re now able to bring this iconic label to Africa, to create an authentic and trusted home for those who aspire to be the best in hip-hop, Afrobeats and trap” Dlamini said in the official press release.
