“…what inspired this project is a true love story that I went through and all the feelings that played a part, you have the love side of the project and then you have the cold hearted side of the project,” Type Uno explained in a recent interview.
The “love side” of FOR The LOVE begins with the tracks “Me and You” and “Rest Of My Life.” The cuts utilize R&B samples, including TLC’s classic song “No Scrubs” and Ashanti’s “Movies,” as well as unmistakably Californian drumlines.
The songs work in tandem with each other with “Me and You” describing Uno spitting game to a woman that he meets, explaining why he’s the one for her. “Rest Of My Life” follows “Me and You” up, explaining what kind of woman Uno would want to have as a wife.
With lines like “I got you, I got us, both of us together puts the ‘us’ in ‘trust’” and “I’m the type that’s gon be there for you all of the time”, the tape’s next track “Time With You” details what kind of boyfriend Uno would be to his lover.
The project’s next track “Promise” marks the final act of Uno’s love side. With a somber piano melody and minimal percussion, Uno proves his loyalty to his lover. However, even after proving his loyalty, a spoken word interlude titled “The Idea Of What Was True (Poem)” details Uno and his lover’s relationship falling apart.
“…I’m not perfect, you’re able to hear my progression as the music comes out and exactly how I feel being a hundred percent honest with my life and what I go through and what I’ve gone through,” Uno stated.
The final three tracks of Uno Type’s project are high octane tracks that see the heartbroken rapper distancing himself from his ex and diving into the perils of love. Lines like “I did you right but you slid me to the left” and “you broke my heart baby now it’s f*ck you” illustrate Uno getting played by his former lover and being unable to get over her.
