Gustavo Guaapo is a rising artist who burst onto the streaming scene in 2018. Having always had a natural affinity for music, the twenty-five year old Canadian rapper honed his craft over the years to become the artist that he is today. Although he receives creative inspiration from a number of styles, Gustavo Guaapo combines a variety of compositional elements to form his unique sound.
“This (Dubai Scars) record is super personal because I feel like I’m giving the people a glimpse into a trip that changed my life and my career. Due to legal issues, I wasn’t able to leave the country even before the pandemic started, so my trip to Dubai was the motivation I needed to finish my album and re-dedicate myself to the music. I feel like it was low key a sabbatical for me because before I left I was looking for inspiration then I got there and made connections with people who encouraged me to keep pushing. I feel blessed to have met up with these people who renewed my hunger for the game and had a great time experiencing the freedom I once took for granted.”
The track produced by Hart “PRODBYHART” Sommerville commences with a twelve second intro that sets the tone for the vocal line. The vocal color is stylistic and emotive; seamlessly synchronizing with the smooth vibe of the instrumental accompaniment. The subtle layering of a vocal delay adds a depth and creative flare to the overall sound without detracting from the main melody.
The powerful sub-bass, steady beat and melodic guitar progression combine to provide the perfect platform for the vocal. The beat systematically drops out of the mix; delivering just the right amount of dynamic diversity to ensure that this track is engaging from start to finish. By the time ‘Dubai Scars’ draws to a close, you’ll find yourself humming along with the catchy hook and in need of hitting that repeat button for another listen.
From the well balanced production and creative instrumentation, to the impressive vocal performance, fans of Gustavo Guaapo, as well as those who appreciate new music, will definitely want to check out this single and video. The video shot and edited by Orazio gives the single it’s remarkable justice. ‘Dubai Scars’ is officially out now and available to stream on all major streaming platforms!
