The opening night for “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical” was a star-studded and well-received event at Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on November 7; and now competes with the iconic movie of the same theme “What’s Love Got To Do With It?”. Which adaptation of Ms. Tina Turner’s life is the best? Take a trip to New York this fall to decide for yourself.
The play follows Turner, portrayed by Adrienne Warren, as she relocated from Tennessee to St. Louis, detailing her abusive relationship with then-husband Ike Turner yet ultimately becoming a musical icon and leading a 50-year global career as the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
Tina herself surprised the crowd at the opening, joining the cast onstage with other members of the production team. She gave an emotional speech, sharing that “This musical is my life but it’s like poison that turned to medicine. I can never be as happy as I am now.” Other celebrity friends in attendance at the Broadway opener were Oprah Winfrey, Gayle King, Tiffany Haddish, Spike Lee, Whoopi Goldberg, Martha Stewart, Anna Wintour and more!
Congratulations to Tina Turner on her Broadway show and half a century of musical success!
