The Weeknd has stepped up in the fight against social injustices.
The “Heartless” singer has donated a staggering half-a-million dollars to the Black Lives Matter movement. He also encouraged his fans to donate by sharing links to the organizations in which he has contributed to.
“Keep supporting our brothers and sisters out there risking everything to push for actual change for our black lives,” he wrote. “Urging everyone with big pockets to give and give big and if you have less please give what you can even if it’s a small amount.”
The $500,000 donation was distributed amongst three organizations. $200,000 went towards the Black Lives Matter Global Network, another $200,000 was granted to Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp Legal Defense Initiative and the final $100,000 was given to the National Bail Out program, which covers bail out fees for protestors.
Protests and demonstrations continue following the murder of George Floyd, with artists such as Drake, Beyonce, and Nicki Minaj demanding justice for the man who’s murder went viral and sent shockwave across the globe.
