In 2018, Minnesota-born, LA-based artist Dustin Gill, who performs under the name Drawn To The Sky, took the biggest step towards making his dreams of becoming a professional musician come true when he released his first single. Since then, his Drawn To The Sky project has gone on to receive millions of streams on Spotify and has landed spots on official Spotify Playlists alongside bands like Sleeping With Sirens and Pierce the Veil. With all of his recent successes, Gill is keeping his nose to the grindstone and is busy prepping his next Drawn To The Sky release.
The unique sound of Drawn To The Sky is highly accredited to Gill’s wide cache of influences. Growing up, he was equally inspired by pop-punk mainstays like All Time Low as he was by new-age emo-rappers like XXXTentacion and Oliver Francis. This melding of inspirations has allowed Gill to create a sound as Drawn To The Sky that is entirely his own. Upbeat and melodic trap beats, that even have a little bit of hyper pop influence, are matched with emo lyrics reminiscent of pop-punk days of old on tracks like “I Sea Sirens” and “Magick”. The most impressive part of it all is that Gill is behind each and every sound.
Currently independent, Gill has taught himself to create every aspect of his musical presence, from songwriting and producing down to the album artwork and marketing. Up next, Gill is hard at work putting the finishing touches on the next few Drawn To The Sky singles, which will eventually be repackaged into a new EP. One of these tracks is a currently unnamed single featuring fellow up-and-coming artist COTIS. “The song is about wanting to turn the clock back and retry things over again with someone,” Gill shares. “Remembering all the mistakes you made back then and what you could have done to change them is hard to relive.”
