It’s not often you’re able to read about a person’s first-hand account with working beside industry greats such as Trey Songz, 50 Cent and Jennifer Lopez, just to name a few. Multi-Platinum Producer Amadeus is shaking things up and giving an exclusive peek into his star-studded life with humble beginnings. In collaboration with fellow authors; Hip-Hop’s Publicist/ Author-Lynn K. Hobson and Actress/Author, Trina Stackhouse, Super Producer Antwan “Amadeus” Thompson has released his first book “THE STORY OF AMADEUS AND THE BEAT GOES ON” under Hobson Publishing House. The Multi-Platinum Producer who got his first major break into the music industry as a producer on Foxy Brown’s, Cradle to The Grave hit which landed on the soundtrack of the blockbuster movie, Cradle To The Grave starring the legendary late rapper, DMX and actor Jet Li, hit the ground running and hasn’t stopped since. I caught up with Amadeus to talk about his career, his new book as he transitions into a new chapter in his life (pun intended), what’s to come next and more!
REDD ROXX: First and foremost, congratulations on your first book!
AMADEUS: Thanks so much means the world to me and thank you for allowing me this moment to share with the Hip Hop Weekly community.
RR: You’re so welcome! Appreciate you for sitting down with me. Your book is dope! Were you nervous about writing a book that gives a look inside your personal and professional life?
A: No, not at all I was excited to share my story and my journey with the world in light of inspiring kids and adults as well all around the world to chase and live their dreams like I’m doing as we speak.
RR: Salute to you for doing so, I think it’s super important for influential persons in the industry such as yourself to provide this type of transparency. What were the most difficult parts to open up about?
A: The most difficult part to talk about was my late Bishop/Pastor/2nd Mom Bishop Michel White. During the pandemic God brought her home and it was during the pandemic that we finished the book so it was definitely bittersweet because I was excited about the fact that I finally finished the book but she wasn’t here to witness it and be apart of it in the flesh so that definitely took a lot out of me. Grateful for her life and all she’s done for me and now the world will get to know how important she is to me so even though she’s watching down on us from heaven, the world will know her name. I’m gonna continue to say it everywhere I’m blessed to go but now also she’s in the book and I know the book will be able to reach more places around the world and I’m blessed and grateful for that. SIP to our Angel Bishop/Pastor Michel White I love and miss you soooooooooooooo much Im gonna continue to make her proud!
RR: That’s very touching! So sorry for your loss and yes it’s amazing that she can now live on through your amazing book. What would you say is your favorite chapter?
A: I would have to say the very very beginning where I’m talking about how I came up and how everything started for me musically. It’s pretty cool that at 40 years old, I still was able to remember all of the moments and memories and include them in the book for people to learn about me and my history.
RR: I could imagine taking a walk down memory lane was a powerful experience for you. What are some of the things you hoped to accomplish with your book?
A: I want everyone who has an opportunity to read the book to enjoy the moments because a lot of people are able to relate to it and also want people to be inspired, motivated & empowered to go after their dreams with everything they’ve got no matter what the circumstances are. There’s gonna be people & things against you but you must be able to stand tall and never give up as God’s blessed us with these gifts and talents and I believe there to be shared with the world we can do anything we put our heart, mind and soul to so LET’S GO!!!
RR: What a dope message! I’m sure you will accomplish all of that and more. The business side of your book release is monumental for you as well. Why did you choose to partner with Lynn K. Hobson and Trina Stackhouse?
A: Lynn Hobson aka Money Lynn is my publicist, we’ve known each other for years and I shared with her that it was on my bucket list to release a book of my story. Once the pandemic hit and no one could work, travel & etc we felt like it was the perfect timing to make it happen so we did which was when I was introduced to Trina Stackhouse and the rest was history. These amazing women are already authors of their own books and of books written by them with & for others and I loved the fact that they were two black Queens partnered doing amazing things. I felt in my spirit they were the ones I needed to work alongside for this book and it was an AMAZING choice I couldn’t have done it without them so grateful for them. Thank You Queens Lynn & Trina history has already begun to be made!
RR: That’s so inspiring! Especially being a black woman who’s an author myself, I know how tough this industry is! So hats off to you for following through and partnering with black women to do so. Now that the book is out, in hindsight, is there anything you would have done differently?
A: No, I feel that my steps are ordered by God, so my story is my story and it was suppose to go exactly like this. I’m blessed, I’m grateful and one thing I don’t and will never do is compare myself or my life to anyone else’s. I just feel it’s not the right thing to do can’t nothing good come from that. I believe what’s for you is for you and what’s for me is for me.
RR: Love it! So you’ve definitely been a trailblazer in music, is this the start of your journey as an author? Any more books in the works?
A: This is definitely the start of me walking through a new door as a new author. It’s definitely a lot different from creating music as a producer & musician but I’m starting to get the hang of it LOL! It’s an amazing feeling to see the faces of people after they have read & experienced the book. I believe it’s my calling to push people to #DreamBig, go after and live their dreams, people will never forget about me or forget me if I’m a blessing to them, so that’s the mission to be a blessings to as many people as I can.
RR: Well I am looking forward to more books in the future from you for sure. What’s next for you otherwise?
A: Whatever God has for me is still creating music so you never know what albums I’ll be a part of so stay tuned. I have my residency at the #1 HipHop nightclub in Las Vegas Drai’s Nightclub so will continue to help create monumental moments for those that travel to Vegas for the turn up. The new author definitely has me pretty busy so I’m excited to see all that’s to come for me and The Story of Amadeus “And The Beat Goes On” Book.
RR: Dope! Thank you again for sitting down with me and sharing your story. Please leave a word of advice for other aspiring producers and authors.
A: To all the creatives out there God has blessed us all with gifts and talents and it’s up to you to find out what they are, nourish them, shoot in the gym and prepare yourself and them to share with the world. Your gifts and talents are just for you but it’s for the world to enjoy and experience as well. No matter what, love yourself and be yourself, everyone else is already taken but no one is you no one has your fingerprints…everything else can be similar but not quite you and that’s your superpowers OWN IT! There’s room for everyone to make it and be successful at whatever it is people do, so no need for hate, spread love and positive energy ONLY much love & God Bless us ALL! Thank you so much for this conversation and allowing me to share insight and my new book The Story of Amadeus “And The Beat Goes On” Best Sellers list I’M COMING FOR YOU!!!
