HHW: Introduce yourself to our readers. Let them know your name and where you’re from.
Dino: I’m known as Smooth Kidd Dino-SKD, from the infamous Moe Town on the Southside of Chicago.
HHW: Why did you start to do music?
Dino: As a young kid, I was always running up behind my uncle and his friends who were heavy into music. Seeing them write songs and record mixtapes peeked my interest! The rest is what it is.
HHW: When did you know that it was actually going to be your career?
Dino: Once I started putting my music out there and getting positive feedback from my peers and people started reaching out to me to host parties and do shows I knew it was going to be my career.
HHW: If you could get advice from any artist in the industry, who would it be and why?
Dino: Jay-Z, because he’s the best! Common, because he made it out of Chicago! Any rapper who can figure that out, has some wisdom to offer. Oh yeah Jadakiss, because we’ve built a relationship and he’s become a positive mentor for me.
HHW: What or who influences your music?
Dino: My hood! My city! My life!
HHW: Has anyone helped you or guided you in getting your foot in the industry?
Dino: Anytime people see you working toward a goal, they’re willing to help you. Most days it feels like I’m doing it all on my own but it’s always somebody around helping in some way, whether they know it or not.
HHW: Have you ever released an album?
Dino: Yes, Underrated, available on all platforms.
HHW: What differentiates you from other artists?
Dino: Like most underground Chicago artists, I started off doing drill. I started thinking everybody doing drill , let me switch my style. That’s when I found my voice.
HHW: Are you currently on any tours or do you have any shows booked?
Dino: My shooting incident really re-energized my drive for music. I had slowed down, I wasn’t working on anything or doing any shows. Now I’m back on it and ready to get out here.
HHW: What do you hope to get out of your involvement in the music industry?
Dino: I hope to achieve success. My success means people are hearing different stories from Chicago besides the ones they’re use to, and seeing what kind of talent we have here.
