Singer Chico DeBarge, of the famous DeBarge family, was dealt a devastating blow recently when it was revealed that his son, Dontae Anderson-BeBarge was viciously stabbed to death in Los Angeles.
According to Rolling Out, 35-year-old Dontae was in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles at the time.

For reasons unknown, he was stabbed by an unknown assailant multiple times. Officers who responded to the scene reportedly located him bleeding out. Unfortunately, life saving measures were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

While the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that a stabbing death took place, they would not immediately release the name of the victim. Authorities issued a statement in the case.

“Per Sgt. Fisher, Van Nuys Area Watch Commander, a homicide occurred at the above location. The victim (M/B/35 yrs) was found with multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by LAFD. There is no suspect information. The victim is homeless. It is unknown if it is gang-related.”

While it might come as a surprise to some that the son of Chico DeBarge would be homeless considering his father’s success, the DeBarge clan have had their share of struggles. Many members of the famed family, which has birthed generations of musical acts,  have found themselves struggling with drug addictions, arrests, prison sentences, among other hardships.

We will continue to keep Chico in our prayers and he mourns the loss of his son.
