Ooh baby, baby! The iconic duo Salt-n-Pepa biopic is on the way! As fans will have the opportunity to see the highs and lows of the rapper’s careers coming soon to Lifetime.

Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton of the Grammy Award-winning group appeared via Zoom during Lifetime’s press day on Tuesday (Jan. 12). Alongside actresses GG Townson, Laila Odom, and legendary director, Mario Van Peebles.

During an interview with HipHopWeekly’s correspondent Driune Santana, Salt-n-Pepa spoke about reliving those dark moments they experienced through GG and Laila while filming.

“It was definitely a challenge,” said James. “The whole process was a challenge for me because cause I am an emotional human being and when I remember particularly on the set when GG was throwing up I got really emotional. She got really emotional. We ended up hugging and crying. Going through being severely bulimic, I know a lot of people don’t understand eating disorders. You know it’s an addiction and a psychological issue as many are. And so I just appreciated that she got it.”

Pepa added that it was also challenging for her seeing Laila acting out the cutting scene in the movie.

“Personally, when you talk about mentioning that for me, that cutting scene, that was huge. That’s not something that I’ve discussed personally with my family. Yes, it was mentioned in my book and things, but to actually see that again because of how hard it was when my father died. I was devastated.”

“Salt-N-Pepa” premieres Saturday, January 23 at 8/7c on Lifetime.
