Music is an art form that has the ability to heal, transform and renew. It is a powerful feat for an artist who knows how to tap into these modes of connection authentically. Young rapper RodThaGreat does just that-his vibe is not the average street rap/trap/upbeat hip-hop sound, but more of a journey into the psyche, introspective and lyrically imbued with depth and thoughtfulness. So far the young independent artist has released two EPs, his freshman EP “Dark Nights of the Soul” that was released in May 2020 and sophomore EP “The Art of Slumber”, released in October 2021.
Both projects feature some of the independent artist’s best work, including viral hit singles “Birthdays” and “Fever Dreams.” Below are a few of his timeless lyrics,

RodThaGreat’s fearless vulnerability in his poetic wordplay is evident as he reveals doing inner shadow work,embracing his dark and light emotional phases, his biggest strength in connecting to his listeners. His music reminds you that you’re not alone in your battles.
When asked where he gets his inspiration, he cites books, images, and his everyday life. He emphasizes, “even going outside to take a good look at the world, behaviors, and people for inspiration. Mostly books inspire me more than anything.” It’s no surprise the adept rapper’s name comes from his big ambitions, aiming to be the greatest in his craft and “creating nothing but masterpieces in the future.”
The Atlanta-based rapper started exploring the music scene during his middle school years, inspired by his older cousin who was already in the music industry. He would spend a good chunk of time thoroughly studying and searching for his own unique sound. “I didn’t fit in at all as a person and that was reflected in the music world. My biggest obstacle was figuring out how to implement my mind through music that’s true to me as a person.” The task of soul searching is certainly a process everyone can relate to. The independent artist aims to share his journey to self with others:
“I want to create things that properly reflect me as an individual, my emotions, mentality, ideas, fears, and help others heal and make it through whatever they’re going through. Standing the test of time is an important thing for me. I want to impact the genuine ones out there, and the outliers of the world.”
