Roc Kartel has just released the third installment in his Time is Now EP series. Time is Now 3 consists of five songs that help to show the Maryland native’s growth within his sound and lyricism including the lead single “High Road” that was released in April and for which the official video debuted earlier this month.
“[The EP] was inspired by my recent personal events and things that happened in the past,” Kartel said. “On this project I feel like I got a little more deep and my meaning for Time is Now is that ain’t nothing promised to us not even the next 30 minutes so I’m not about to let nothing at all hold me back in any type of way.”
A great example of just how “deep” the now L.A.-based emcee was willing to get is on noteworthy outro track “Therapy.” Over the strings and piano-infused melody Kartel gets candid about his upbringing, touching on his involvement in street life and as well as addressing specific members of his family before he thanks fans for taking the time to listen to the project.
Growing up, Roc Kartel was always exposed to music as his father was a musician and his grandfather a prominent DJ in the DMV area on the East Coast. It would not be until 2010 that he would begin pursuing a career of his own within music. During recent years he has cultivated a following and fanbase all in part to his 2017 hit “Real Woman” and now with his Time is Now EPs which he started releasing in 2020.
With the release of Time is Now 3, Kartel is also getting back to what he loves most: performing. “Back in January I decided I wasn’t about to wait for no venue to book me, I love to perform so I said I’mma hit up all the locations on the West Coast that allow busking and I’m going to set up and perform,” he shared.
