Letter 2 The Streets is Compton artist YAARB’s most recent project that just dropped — and it’s setting the tone for what audiences can expect from the rising talent. The 6-track project is a collection of anecdotes and thoughts on what it was like for him to grow up in his hometown. YAARB’s delivery is so genuine about what he has seen and experienced that listeners from all walks of life may identify and empathize via a universal emotion.
“I definitely believe that my upbringing has played a huge role in my music due to the things that I talk about,” YAARB said in a recent interview. “I talk about the things that I’ve seen, heard – stories that I witnessed on my own and events that happened in my city.”
His project tells various stories that he’s witnessed, ultimately relaying the subject matter of not having to be a thug in the streets. The Compton, California native may have had a tough upbringing, but that hasn’t stopped him from sharing his experiences and how they have influenced him.
“I’m passionate about music because a lot of us don’t know how to express our feelings or talk,” YAARB said. “I believe music is the easiest way to do so. Music is one of the ways I can be heard. Showing people that my voice can be heard is what inspires me to make music.”
The contemplative “Ghetto Gates” ft. THIIIRD is a standout track on the album that has the artists asking if heaven has a ghetto. It’s a song that showcases YAARB’s talents and speaks to some of the thoughts he has as a result of growing up in his city.
When asked about some of his career goals for his future, YAARB responded: “To tour the world. I want to share my music and get my voice spread out for people that feel like I do. I want people to know what we’re really made of!”
While the tape’s major focus is on his own personal experiences, YAARB wants listeners to take away the lesson “That it’s okay to be yourself and love yourself,” regardless of their surroundings or circumstances.
