The NAACP announced on Tuesday that they have selected Fenty mogul and singer, Rihanna, to receive it’s prestigious President’s Award during the 51st NAACP Image Awards on February 22nd, which will be the first time that the ceremony will be televised live on BET.
NAACP President Derrick Johnson praised Rihanna, saying the 31-year-old “epitomizes the type of character, grace and devotion to justice” that the organization represents and looks to spotlight. Rihanna, who’s real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, will join previous recipients Jay-Z, Muhammad Ali and Jesse Jackson.
Rihanna has accumulated nine Grammys. She has taken a break from music to focus on her beauty and fashion ventures. In 2019, she launched her own fashion line called Fenty in collaboration with LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. Her Savage X Fenty lingerie collection launched in 2018 and has been praised for its wide range of sizes, catering to all body types.
