Late Tuesday night, the world was dealt a devastating blow when it was announced that legendary comedian and actor John Witherspoon had passed away at age 77. His son, JD Witherspoon broke the news on Twitter, sending shock waves through social media, with tributes pouring in from fans and entertainers alike. John Witherspoon is best known for his roles as “Pops” in hit TV-sitcom, The Wayans Bro’s, which aired for five seasons, as well as the Friday franchise. He also provided the distinct voice for the character Cantankerous Robert “Granddad” Freeman in the controversial animated series, “The Boondocks”, which has been in talks of making a comeback.

During his lengthy career, the comedian was known for his hilarious lines in movies and stand up. Let’s take a look back at some of his most memorable quotes.

Friday: “You win some, you lose some. But you live to fight another day.”

Friday: “Everytime I come in the kitchen, you in the kitchen. In the goddamn refrigerator. Eatin’ up all the food. … I wanna eat some of them chitlins, I love pig feet!”

Boomerang: “The secret is you got to coordinate, most people don’t coordinate”

Boomerang: “Don’t be pussy whipped! Whip that pussy!”

The Wayans Bro’s: “YITADEE!”

The Wayans Bro’s/Boomerang: “BANG! BANG! BANG!”

Watching Friday just won’t feel the same knowing that we’ve lost an icon, especially given the fact that the final installment entitled “Last Friday” is set to be released on the original films 25th anniversary, which would be April 25th 2020. There has been no word yet on how his projects that were in the works will continue in his absence.

In the words of Ice Cube, “Life won’t be as funny without him.” May you rest in peace Mr. Witherspoon. Thank you for the endless laughs.
