Recently, Yahoo News sat down with Ray Knowledge to get his thoughts on current affairs, the film industry, up-and-coming entrepreneurs, and other creative efforts.
Ray Knowledge is the CEO of Visionful and an independent filmmaker. Through his company and innovative app, eConsultMe, Ray has enabled countless entrepreneurs to access millions in grants and government funding. This work has helped to dramatically change the lives of people with small businesses and start-ups by connecting them to resources to take their dreams to the next level.
In his recent interview, Ray shared his educational background in audio production. He detailed when he got hooked on making videos, which led him to quit his job and pursue a fully-fledged film career. Now, as the head of Visionful, Ray has just released his independent short film release, “602”, which shares a personal, timely, and powerful story.
Ray draws inspiration from other professionals in the field. However, his primary influence in the film medium comes from inside himself. Drawing on his inner ideas and creativity, he has created unique and compelling work without being overly derivative.
In the Yahoo News interview, Ray also takes a deep dive into his creative process. He explores the early stages of writing up a draft synopsis to the moment of completion when an audience member finally watches the film. On top of this, Ray discusses the challenges and obstacles that an independent filmmaker has when dealing with budget constraints and on-set problems. He shares how he deals with these issues and why it’s essential to have a great team surrounding you throughout the creative process. These experiences are critical for budding directors looking to immerse themselves in the vast world of film.
Unlike many other directors, Ray is also the CEO of his production company. He usually has to do so much more than just direct to get a project up and going. He understands what it takes to lead a team effectively and create an intentional work environment where the staff, artists, and crew members can thrive.
There’s no doubt that Ray is an inspiration to aspiring filmmakers and even just up-and-coming entrepreneurs that have a dream. When discussing what advice he has for people who are interested in working in the film industry, Ray has this to say,
“Stay consistent with your work ethic, your study, and your vision. There will be long days and late nights, and moments of doubt. Don’t give up, and you will begin to reap the harvest of the seeds you have sown in your vision.”
Even though Ray has directed this advice to people interested in film, it extends far beyond the industry.
