Southside, the producer of a number of hit Hip Hop records, has announced via Twitter that he will be retiring after the next 808 Mafia album.
Southside is apart of the 808 Mafia collective, and is known to produce the biggest records, working with artists such as Gucci Mane, Future, Drake, Migos, 21 Savage, Chief Keef, Young Thug, Juicy J, DJ Khaled and Wiz Khalifa.
Despite his highly successful production career, it is quite apparent Southside no longer wants to be in the music industry. He initially tweeted a hint of retiring by saying, “I’m thinking bout retirement how y’all feel about that” which received a huge reaction from his fans pleading him not to.
Then he fired off another tweet announcing he is officially out the game after the 808 Mafia album. “AFTER THIS 808mafia ALBUM IM DONE IM WHERE I WANNA BE IN LIFE AS A PRODUCER IM DONE JUST KNO THIS ALBUM IS GOING TO BE GREAT IM STILL GONE LEAD FOR THE CULTURE IM STILL GONE TRY TO PUT NEW PRODUCERS ON BUT AS A PRODUCER IM THROWING THE TOWEL IN AFTER THIS ALBUM I’m done.”
If retiring is in fact Southside’s final decision, the music industry will surely miss his innovative sound in today’s Hip-Hop.
