Rosenberg who is a cohost of The Hot 97 Morning Show, ESPN’s “The Michael Kay Show” is also is a commentator for WWE. He is also the proud 24/7 Championship Belt Holder at Royal Rumble (2021). Rosenberg who has been with Hot 97 since July of 2007 quickly became known as the Sunday night Gatekeeper for putting on underground artists during his show “Real Late”. In the years that followed Rosenberg world premiered music from future superstars such as Action Bronson, Joey Badass, A$AP Rocky, Childish Gambino, Frank Ocean, Tyler the Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Travis Scott and countless others. He has broke new music from a variety of up and comers that we know and love today including originals from Kendrick Lamar, Action Bronson, Badass, ASAP Rocky and Ferg, to name a few.

During the making of his album “REAL LATE”, Rosenberg shifted his role from behind the DJ chair into the Executive producer chair role. His new album “REAL LATE” which Peter tells me is named after the Sunday night radio show that put him on the map in the first place and gave dozens of independent, underground, and boom bap artists an opportunity to be heard at a time when no one else on radio was doing so, has now become the trending Hashtag on Twitter- #RealLate since Rosenberg’s debut last week.

“REAL LATE” is Rosenberg’s first full album although he’s previously released two mixtapes; “What’s Poppin’ Vol. 1” in 2011 and “New York Renaissance” later in 2013. Fans from all over have been waiting for Rosenberg’s latest project with New Yorkers especially hyped about the creative body of work since Rosenberg first announced the project back in the May. Fans are calling REAL LATE “The Album of The Summer” while critics are saying the project could very go the long haul as “Rap’s Album of The Year”.

Peter Rosenberg tells me the idea for the album was a long time coming but that it was really when the pandemic hit that he realized the time was right “Timing is really everything” he says. It was during this time while the world was on lockdown that Rosenberg went back to his roots and finally put together an official album that real Hip Hop Fans have been so patiently waiting for.

Rosenberg also says the process of moving into the director’s seat while putting the album together started moving forward sometimes around September 2020.

I asked Peter what it was like for him to work with over 25 artists & ultimately 25 personalities not including the producers on this 13 track project and he tells me that when he started the creative process, he had already known from years of experience in the music industry that he “had to have a thick skin going into, not to take anything personal and to let go of expectations while fully trusting in the process”.

He did say that at times the anticipation of waiting to see which artists would be part of the final completed project was both challenging and exciting. He said some artists sent the records back with their verse immediately while other artists took weeks or months to send the track back. During the time he was in the producer’s seat Rosenberg tells me he “just let go of all expectations and trusted in the process the entire time and he couldn’t be more thrilled to share the final album- REAL LATE with his fans.”

Rosenberg says he credits his buddy Mark Rosado for helping him A&R the project including reaching out and helping to secure some of the artist’s featured on the album and consistently sending Peter music to pick from, not to mention being a solid support for him while he put his all into bringing the vision of his album to life. He also credits INtell- an artist from Second Generation Wu and featured track number 11 for helping with coordinating some of the artists on the project too.

Rosenberg who has been involved in every aspect of the album including expertly curating and overseeing the project down to each detail of the production including picking the beats, vocalist pairings, the entire creative direction, picking out the featured artists, producing, and executively producing it in order to bring his vision of REAL LATE to life.

The final body of work isn’t just a DJ compilation, rather Rosenberg created a masterpiece, a time capsule for real fans of hip hop and what we hear from REAL LATE is perfect collaboration of Rap’s Legendary OG’s that are joined by underground Newcomers who also embody the sound and style of that early 90’s rap music that has also paved the way. Rosenberg calls it “a love letter to hip hop, a truly personal project, bringing some of the best artists to ever do it, Historically speaking, back together while giving the newer artists an opportunity to be see and heard. Exactly how it was when I was doing my show REAL LATE.”

Real Late features the iconic Roc Marci, Styles P of the Lox, Jim Jones and more alongside some of today’s most beloved underground MCs such as Westside Gunn, Crimeapple, and Smoke DZA as well as verses from three founding members of Wu-Tang Clan (Ghostface, Raekwon, and Method Man).

With fans asking for a REAL LATE concert tour, the project debuts just in time for Rosenberg’s performance as part of Top Shelf Premium’s show Supply & Demand on July 10th in Brooklyn. Hosted by Luke Cage. The show features Rosenberg as well as Fly Siifu, Vel the Wonder, Rome Streetz, Chuck Strangers and more, alongside vendors such as Classic Material New York and Guttah Wear.
