“A fly Caribbean New Yorker from the Bronx with down South ties”—that’s how up-and-coming artist OGPD describes himself, and pieces of these places can certainly be found in his music. His work is a concoction of sonic influences from the Bronx, the South, and the Caribbean, tossed in with his distinctively smooth and authentic lyricism. The honesty of OGPD’s music pairs well with his unique sound, and his talented ear and love for music come through in his latest mixtape “MPR”. Released last month, “MPR” strikes listeners with smooth, catchy melodies, and OGPD rides the beat with ease without ever losing the authenticity and honesty that span across his lyricism.
Not only was OGPD born and raised in the Bronx— he was also raised by his father, one of the biggest DJs in uptown New York in the early to mid-90s. Becoming acquainted with music at a young age enveloped OGPD in the craft from the start. He began sinking into the process of making music: its structure, the instrumentation, the technique. Over time, he drew closer and closer to pursuing his music career, eventually taking that dive after moving to Atlanta and working behind-the-scenes. Now, he’s bringing himself and his collective “1050” to the world’s stage, with plans of pursuing other business ventures including film, real estate, and apparel.
With “MPR”, OGPD works to, as he puts it, “motivate people to not only dance and feel good, but to also go out and get it.” Listeners can rest assured that they’re in good hands. As a vibe curator and businessman, OGPD doesn’t just preach hard work and authenticity; he lives it.
