New Orleans artist/songwriter Devious is scheduled to release a new album Independent Rap Hustler on August 6th. After spending time completing industry courses at NYU Clive Davis Institute this past year, Devious has been busy working on his new project.
The seven-time ASCAP award winner just received his latest ASCAP accolades for his contribution to Layton Greene’s “Leave Em Alone” and Chris Brown’s “Go Crazy”.
Devious told us he is excited about his first single “Hot Summer” because he was able to collaborate with his childhood friend Donald XL Robertson, who produced the catchy anthem.
“I have known Devious since elementary school and can’t remember when he wasn’t around. We used to be class clowns but we always succeeded in the classroom.” said Robertson.
Donald XL Robertson is also the owner of XLP distribution company and a multi-platinum producer. He has worked closely with Master P, Brandy, Ray J, Juvenile, Skip, Wacko, Raekwon, Soulja Slim, Silk The Shocker, Mac, and many more.
“Life has a way of taking us in a full circle. It’s a blessing to be able to work with XL on a music and corporate level. There’s no limit to what we can achieve when we work together. Our positive energy aligns without any issues. That’s my homie for life,” said Devious.
Lil Ya of UNLV is also featured on Hot Summer. Devious and Lil Ya have been friends since the classic era days of New Orleans hip hop. Devious said he was long overdue with collaborating with Lil Ya.
“UNLV is one of the most legendary groups from New Orleans. They were the staple group on Cash Money Records. I wanted to give New Orleans and all of our supporters a song that represents the culture. Working with Lil Ya is an honor,” said Devious.
Lil Ya echoed the same sentiments and classifies Devious as the “Berry Gordy” of New Orleans. “He is always going hard for our city and the culture. I really love this new record we created,” said Lil Ya.
The album and single is distributed by XLP Distribution/Dashgo Distribution/Downtown Music Services. Hot Summer is already growing legs on Q93 with DJ Ro and surrounding area markets Texas and Mississippi. Devious also released an e-book “Independent Rap Hustler” on July 16th on Amazon which gives an inside look to his upcoming release.
