With Juneteenth in effect, rapper Wale came through with a surprise project inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. The Imperfect Storm is a six-track EP, which focuses on Black Excellence and the album’s cover art, designed by Kenny Huyng, is also an interesting aspect and pretty self-explanatory. A photo from the protests in Los Angeles with a group of people nearby as a fire burns in the street. A clear reference to the current situation in America.

One track that stands out is the powerful “JUNE 5th / QueenZnGodZ.”

I try and watch the news but I’m lashin’ out / My daughter seen the murder on cellular phone / And that was not on purpose, was orderin’ Trolls / Okay, they mad, they mad, they mad, they hot / Thinkin’ the badge is better than havin’ some heart

According to Wale’s good friend Kazeem Famuyide, The Imperfect Storm was recorded over the last two weeks. The EP is available now on Apple Music and Spotify.
