While Tory Lanez is breaking the internet with his Quarantine Radio program on Instagram Live, the rapper is also serving some serious heat with his latest music project. The New Toronto 3 is the third installment in the series of the same name, and a follow-up to his previous album, Chixtape 5.
The 16-track mixtape is a little different than the feature-heavy Chixtape 5. For starters, there are only two guest appearances, Lil Tjay (“Accidents Happen”) and Mansa (“10 F*CKS”). Also, Lanez trades in those smooth R&B lyrics for some fire rap verses and trap beats. But most importantly, The New Toronto3 marks the end of an era, as this is Tory’s final album under Interscope Records. “I’m going to go completely independent. I’m not in it to play games,” he told NME Magazine. “I’ve been in it for 10 years, and I’m still relevant.”
The Canadian rapper goes on by saying that a breakup influenced his mixtape. “I’m definitely getting over a girl that I felt did me wrong. But also friends that I feel like the flame has blown out on our relationships. Just people doing me dirty, man. Sometimes you feel like you’ve got a dark cloud over your head and things aren’t going right for you, but if you put on this project then it’s gonna motivate you and make you feel like you’ve got to get up and do something.”
