NBA future hall of fame, point guard, Chris Paul took to Twitter to reveal his newest endeavor in partnership with Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade to address various outlets of injustice within America’s Black neighborhoods.
Dubbed “Social Fund Change,” the trio will look to suppress socio-economic injustice, invest in institutions whose priority is fighting against police brutality, empowering the Black community, and advocacy for human rights of all Black lives through long-term policies, and education investments while addressing other critical issues that negatively impact the Black communities through the reformation of the criminal justice system, propelling economic equity, and supporting voting and civic engagement.
“Our mission is to address socio-economic injustice issues facing Black and Brown communities by making meaningful change. Looking forward to building a better, more equal tomorrow,” Chris Paul stated in a tweet.
Shortly after Paul’s announcement, Wade and Melo took to their respective Instagram accounts, where they shared their excitement and commitment in supporting grassroots organizations doing the groundwork.
At the start of the 2016 EPSYs ceremony Paul, Melo, Wade, along with Lebron James issued a direct challenge to athletes across the country to use their platform and influence to invoke change. Since their opening monologue, the four have verbally denounced police brutality, stood alongside protesters, and voiced their displeasure of the Lousiville, Kentucky authorities for not holding the police officers who killed Breonna Taylor accountable.
