Originally from Ypsilanti, Michigan, Demetri is an independent artist currently living his dreams to the fullest. Due to both his mother’s and father’s musical backgrounds, he became involved in music at an early age. He was taught how to sing at a very young age by his mother, grandmothers, and uncles who were all singers. In Detroit, his father was a well-known MC and was part of a rap group that gained local fame. As a result of these roots, he was able to find his voice in music. Despite his early involvement in his church choir, he didn’t start taking music seriously until he no longer could play football. His recording career began in college in 2019 and has continued ever since. Many of Demetri’s musical influences are gospel artists, such as Fred Hammond, The Winans, and J Moss. In terms of R&B inspirations, he was a fan of acts like 112, KC and Jojo, Donnel Jones, Tyrese, and Tank.
The music Demetri makes is meant to be relatable to his fans. It is important for him that people see an artist who is relatable to everyday life situations and obstacles other than just love. His life has been challenging in many ways, including homelessness, poverty, and raising nine younger siblings. Despite all this trouble, it has also been a triumph. The most important accomplishment of his career has been the ability to write and engineer his music. It is this personal touch that draws his fans. Demetri has a new single called “Ride,” which deals with the ups and downs of a relationship and navigating if someone is going to ride with you through thick and thin.
