A New York Rapper with an energetic presence and an honest sound, Mic Nickels is an artist to pay attention to. Most recently he has released a new single from his coming album, Bars For Days. The song, titled “Rappers Don’t Smile”, focuses on the life of rappers and what they really go through. It is an incredible example of Nickels’s personal style and creativity as an artist.
Growing up around the world of Hip Hop, Nickels was quick to find a home in the industry. Starting out in a group with a college friend, they enjoyed life on the stage. Now as a solo act, Nickels is finding a voice of his own.
“Rappers Don’t Smile” is one of Nickels’s many releases. The start of a new project, it shows off his style and gives his audience a taste of what’s to come. “It’s a Boom Bap, feel good kind of song,” he explained. “The classic Hip Hop banger I wanted to come out with out of the gate. It’s what my fans know me for.” Not only does the song have an incredible feel to it, it has an interesting message.
The song “Rappers Don’t Smile” is meant to give Hip Hop fans a look into what it is like to live the life of a rapper. “I would go to open mics or I would go to Hip Hop shows and I would see that about 90% of people would have this mean, scowl on their face. I wanted to break that down a little bit,” Nickels said. “Maybe they’re going through hard times, or maybe they just feel like that’s what they’re supposed to be doing because that’s what they see in their heroes.”
The single is merely the beginning of an incredible and interactive new album. Not only is Bars For Days an audio project that tells the story of an amazing artist, but also a personal book teaching the audience who Mic Nickels really is. Each book includes a QR code for readers to find the album and experience the two together. It is a unique experience allowing the listener to enjoy the music and learn more about who this intriguing artist is.
Following this single, Nickels also plans to release the next single from the album, a track titled “Sky City”. This track provides a more contemporary sound and feel and promises an exciting new visual to go along with it. The full album will be released in the year 2022.
