HHW: First, we need you to introduce yourself to the readers who may not be familiar. Tell us a little about you.
Huncho: I’m Huncho D. White, a rap/hip-hop artist from Georgia. For over 10 years, music has been an important part of my life as I started creating music as a child. Even though I’m a hip-hip artist, I’m versatile and maintain the ability to create different genres and styles of music. My debut album, Quarantine Huncho, was released in February 2021. During the pandemic, I had time to learn myself and discover more of my musical abilities. So, that was the motivation behind the album and its title. Prior to my album coming out, I released several singles and produced for other artists.
HHW: When did you first fall in love with music, and how long have you been actively pursuing your dreams of becoming a music artist?
Huncho: I first fell in love with music when I was around 10 years old. It was after my dad passed away. I was looking for something to get my mind off of his death, something that both he and I would be proud of. So, that’s when I tapped into my love for music, and started freestyling and composing songs.
HHW: What differentiates you from other artists?
Huncho: I feel that my realness and the fact that I really want to see everyone win sets me apart. I’m genuine. I rap about real life. For instance, my single, “Trappin’ & Rappin,’” tells real-life experiences. Everyone’s heard about trapping but not everyone has experienced it. I treat “rapping like trapping,” a good product sells itself. Also, I’m not making music just for the money or materialistic things. I do it because I love it and to hopefully make a way for those around me.
HHW: Are there any artists in the present day or before you that musically inspire you? If so, who and why?
Huncho: Lil Wayne inspires me for sure. He’s the original GOAT and his wordplay and delivery is crazy. I’ve always liked Outkast because their flow has always been different from other artists. They can’t be compared to anyone. J. Cole is probably who I’m most influenced by. I started following him before he made it big. Young Dolph is another artist that I admire. He made it from the streets to where he is now.
HHW: What motivates you in and out of the booth?
Huncho: My love for music motivates me. Music is like therapy for me. I’m my motivation.
HHW: What are three things about you that would shock the public?
Huncho: One thing that may shock people is that I don’t like trap music only. People may think otherwise by looking at me. A second thing is my brother is the main motivation behind music. He’s the one who first believed in me and encouraged me to pursue music. Lastly, people would probably be shocked to know that I love to laugh! You can even hear a few jokes in my music. I’m a comedian!
HHW: What do you feel you contribute to the culture as an artist?
Huncho: As an artist, I contribute genuine music that’s from the heart. I rap about real life, things that actually happened and things I’ve experienced.
HHW: How do you balance your career with your home life? Family?
Huncho: It used to be hard, but it’s not anymore. The balance for me is ‘music.’ People around you have to understand why you’re doing what you’re doing. Music is my balance until I reach my goals.
HHW: What’s next for you? What should we be on the lookout for?
Huncho: I have an EP that’s coming out soon. There’s no exact release date, yet, but promo will start soon! So, be on the lookout for visuals and more. I’m also still pushing my album, Quarantine Huncho, which is available for download. I’m looking forward to performing more from the album.
