Recently, we had the pleasure of sitting down with David for a brief interview on his career growth and inspiration. Check it out below.
HHW: Introduce yourself for the readers who may not be familiar with who David Duane is?
David: I’m David Duane – A recording artist, media personality, and the managing partner and founder of Urban Fierce Group, a publicity and marketing company. But most importantly I’m a man of God and I am a true positive individual that believes that you can make anything happen at any age when you put in the work for what you truly believe in.
HHW: How long have you worked in media?
David: Honestly this might sound crazy, but I’ve been in media since I was about 15 and 16 years old, I originally started a talk show on BlogTalkRadio (back in the day when it used to free) where I interviewed a lot of contestants from Sean “Diddy” Combs’s MTV hit show “Making The Band”.
From that point I started to develop and craft my media & celebrity interviewing skills at such an early age. I honestly had no clue what I was doing in regards to interviewing and sending pitches to these talents or their representatives so from there I learned how to take a professional stance while a teenager and to reach out send messages from Myspace to email and pushed myself to have strong communication skills and delivery in order to secure not only the interview – content but to start establishing relationships. Mind you I was fully focused on taking dance classes with the dreams of becoming an overall entertainer.
And even while I was in high school I was continuing to interview celebrities and upcoming stars to the point where once I graduated from high school I started in formed my online radio station – My Fierce Wings Radio, which is the home of my radio show “On Air With David Duane” and we’ve been going strong for the past 9 years.
HHW: What attracted you to the media field?
David: I would say just the overall sound of music from R&B to Pop is what truly resonated with my soul and hearing the different radio personalities as I was growing up. Hearing them just talk about the things that happening in the music and entertainment culture just gave me a thrilling feeling.
I always knew that one day I can do this myself because not only did I have the energy and personality, but I had the drive to put my mind to even learning the skills further to take it to the next level. Being from Delaware and growing listening to Philadelphia radio to then having the experience of hearing New York City radio just gave me that urge of wanted to be heard and utilizing my voice when I get older and can really make a name for myself.
HHW: What inspired you to become an entrepreneur and start your own series?
David: Now that’s a great question and just seeing the work of Diddy and being a fan of him truly was the inspiration for as an entrepreneur. Diddy has never allowed himself to be put in a box, he went with his heart and continued to expand his brand while creating other brands and opportunities. So, for me that’s what it’s all about creating brands and opportunities for others and me.
HHW: Can you tell us a little about the Industry Conversation’s Music & Entertainment panel series?
David: Yes, It’s such a must that I speak about this panel series. Industry Conversation honestly was formed because I was sick and tired of seeing others & I not included in conferences and panel conversations. I personally feel like to hear the same women over and over wasn’t inspiring to other fellow creatives, and I wasn’t seeing enough men either so I wanted to change the narrative and welcome everybody in the music & entertainment industry to talk about their particular job position as well as celebrity talent for our round table to have a very in-depth chat about a wide range of topics. Thus far I’m extremely proud of the work I’ve been doing without a team, and just the support of those who wanted to be a true voice and shed light to others. I’m all about teaching and dropping gems so while we’re dealing with everything happening in the today’s world, I wanted to gift people with a positive space to learn.
HHW: What words of advice do you have for those who wish to follow in your footsteps?
David: I would honestly say to be prepared to work and to put in not only days but nights, long hours to really become the best version of you possible and to walk in your journey and you know most importantly to become that person that you always wanted to be. For me it was this process that got me to this point and what is going to further my journey in this business in life to succeed more into inspire other creatives that want to do the similar things that I’m currently doing or even to aspire to do. I want to also say to never give up in be your true number one fan in give everything to the grind, it’ll pay off when the timing is right.
HHW: What can we expect from you in the near future?
David: Well later this month I have a MAJOR announcement that I’m looking forward to unveiling as it’s always been a dream of mine and wouldn’t have expected a blessing like this. But let me tell that God works when you do your part and will always make sure you are good when you’ve been great to others. I’ve got my debut album on the way too and it feels great to finally be in a place where I can release that. Initially wanted to release an album when I was 18 about my life but I didn’t experience a lot of what I have now at 27 so now is the time.
