“Insecure” fans can finally rejoice as we near closer to 2020, the year that will bring about the return of the insanely popular Los Angeles based series, produced by Hollywood breakout star, Issa Rae. An added bonus is that renowned actress and director, Kerry Washington is making her “Insecure” debut.
However, we will not see the four-time NAACP Image Award winner on film. Instead, the “Scandal” star will be stationed behind the camera as she directs episode nine of the series. Washington, who is currently starring in the Netflix drama “American Son,” directed by Kenny Leon, tweeted the announcement by way of a cute video where she spits an extemporaneous freestyle in the mirror, mimicking star Issa Rae’s character hilarious mirror raps seen throughout the series. The tweet was followed by the hashtag #KerryDirectsInsecure . She is not the only star getting a shot at directing next season. Jay Ellis, who plays Issa’s once longtime boyfriend Lawrence on the show, announced that he too will be directing an episode as well.
While fans were devastated to learn that “Insecure” was not returning in 2019, these latest developments have proven that it will be worth the wait. The delay was largely due to the comedy series star, Issa Rae becoming extremely busy with films. In addition to her career taking off, Issa’s personal life took a blissful turn when it was revealed that she and long term boyfriend, Louis Diame, were engaged. It’ll be interesting to see how Issa and Kerry will draw inspiration for their mashup episode.
