Kanye West is taking action! After donating $2 million to support the families of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd, Kanye returned to his hometown of Chicago on Wednesday and participated in the protest against the killing of George Floyd. In addition to the donation, West also launched a college fund for Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter, Gianna.
The rapper kept a low profile, wearing a face mask and a hoodie over his head, as he marched with demonstrators. Although some have expressed their frustration in the past about Kanye having interactions with President Trump, others are commending him for stepping up in light of current events. However at one point, one of the organizers, Taylore Norwood, made it clear that she didn’t want people to get distracted by a celebrity’s presence. “I would like to reiterate that this is a youth-led rally. This is not a celebrity pop-up. You will not hijack this rally from the people who organized it, point blank period.”
Over the last week, protests have been held across all 50 US states as well as in over a dozen countries worldwide.
