Dreamville star J.Cole may be headed to the NBA according to Master P.
“When I talked to J. Cole. He was like, ‘Big dawg, you did it. What do you think I would have to do to make that happen?’” the No Limit mogul revealed during a recent interview with TMZ. “To get one of these NBA jerseys, it’s not gon’ be easy.”
P also revealed that Cole was actively working towards his goal, but that there was more work to be done.
“He’s been showing people that he’s consistent and he’s been in the gym. But now proving that to them GMs, those scouts that’s gon’ come out there. They not just gon’ let you in there no more.”
The “Crooked Smile” rapper is no stranger to the sport. He played basketball in high school and was a walk-on player at his alma mater, St. John’s University. However, he put his hoop dreams on pause to pursue a career in music, going on to become one of the most respected MC’s in hip-hop.
Cole likely sought out advice from P due to the CEO’s own past playing in the NBA. Master P was drafted into the NBA, where he played for the Charlotte Hornets and Toronto Raptors during the 1998 and 1999 pre-season. The two also recently collaborated on Cole’s new Puma commercial, which finds him trying out for the league. “You can’t be serious. I know you ain’t ’bout to try to do what I think you ’bout to try to do. ‘Cause that would be crazy,” P says to Cole in the clip. “I think the homie really tryin’ to do it.”
Do you think J. Cole has what it takes to make it to the NBA? Considering that he is known as one of the best non-pro celebrity players, the idea is not far-fetched.
