Tok’s newest song “Vision,” which samples Snoh Aalegrah’s “Here Now,” is about how people tend to not believe in your dreams and goals until you bring them to fruition. Despite the uncertainty of others, “Vision” is meant to remind everyone to never give up on what or who they want to be in life “through the hard times and disbelievers in your ear.”
Tok, a Philadelphia native learned this for himself when he decided to drop out of college and really try his hand with music. “I wasn’t having the best time there but music was something I started writing everyday because it really started from journaling,” he shared in a recent interview. “Once I dropped out after completing my first year I moved to LA at 18 to pursue music.”
Betting on himself despite the critics worked out in his favor with the Atlanta-based emcee now having career highs such as opening for Jahlil Beats and Rick Ross. While he does realize the progress he has made with music, he understands that doesn’t mean everyone he knows will necessarily be happy for him as he raps on “Vision” about the haters who act like his success was mere luck but weren’t there for the times he was “sleeping on couches” and grinding to be at this point in his career.
When asked about what he hopes fans take away from his music he stated “I want them to take away how much I believe in living life the way they see fit, going after exactly what they want and realizing it’s tangible” and his latest single is a perfect affirmation of this statement.
With plans to release an EP later this summer, “Vision” is a great single to have in rotation until then.
