On Saturday, January 25th, thousands of HBCU alumni and band heads flooded the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia for the ultimate marching band showcase. Since 2003, Honda Battle of the Bands showcase has celebrated, supported, and recognized the excellence of Black college marching bands.
A tradition that started as merely an appreciation for showmanship and musicianship is now regarded as the most prestigious showcase any HBCU marching band can attend. During the event, no winner is crowned. Instead, each band competes amongst each other to earn bragging rights for the year.
This year’s 8 contestants included Benedict college, Florida A&M University, Grambling State University, Hampton University, Jackson State University, North Carolina A&T State University, Prairie View A&M University, and Tennessee State University.
Each band hit the field and proved to the crowd why their school deserved to be in the stadium. For more on the 2020 Honda Battle of the Bands showcase, watch the recap video below.
