Happy 420! Today marks the first and only international holiday in Cannabis Culture. It is the day where supporters of the magic plant from all over the world come together to light up in support of the cannabis movement. It has taken us a long time to get here. Over the past 40 years, the Holiday that we have come to know as 420 (4/20) or “four twenty” is said to have been created in the 70’s by a group of high school kids from Northern California that gathered daily at 4:20pm to smoke together. Four Twenty (4/20) as the group called it, was their code word to meet and light up. Over the last 4 decades, the holiday has been a celebration frowned upon by government, law enforcement, parent’s and non -supporters. Fast-forward to today, 4/20/21 it is a recognized and celebrated holiday by both cannabis smokers and non-smokers. People have shared countless stories of its healing properties. And many supporters of the movement have share stories about how cannabis, in place of pharmaceutical drugs, has changed or saved their life. Here in the United States, the use of cannabis is legal in 17 States. On March 31, 2021, Governor Cuomo gave the green light for New York to become the 15th State in the U.S. to legalize the recreational use of marijuana while that number is growing quickly as it is becoming more acceptable. To see if your state is approved click the link below.
Now that cannabis has become more acceptable and legal in some places across the country, more and more people are beginning to attempt to grow the plant themselves for either medical or recreational use. BUT how do we do you even that you ask? What if I don’t have a green thumb? Well to put it simply for beginners- you’ll need some top of the line seeds, the perfect environment, patience and a lot of love for the plant and growing process.
Seeds, which are the most important element in growing, are legal in most states (mentioned above), and in honor of the legendary Holiday of Cannabis, Hip Hop Weekly Magazine decided to sit down with one of the Top Seed Company’s in the World.
The Bakery Genetics – who recently marked their 5th Anniversary as a lead provider of cannabis seeds – is a medical grade seed company that gives a holistic alternative to pharmaceutical medicine. Here is my discussion with the Owner and Creator of The Bakery Genetics- Nate whose is affectionately known as the mad scientist in the cannabis community because of his endless knowledge of the precious plant and the growing process along with his high powered partner, right hand and marketing strategist of the company: Latina. WATCH THE 5 YEAR ANNIVERSARY VIDEO BELOW!

Congrats on celebrating your 5th Anniversary in the Cannabis industry. What inspired the birth of The Bakery Genetics?
Well in 2017 I went through my own bought of cancer. The doctors had basically given me a hopeless prognosis and wrote script after script of pharmaceutical drugs to take and recommended chemotherapy. I wasn’t having it and was against doing the chemo and filling my body with drugs. All these drugs would be doing is prolonging my life while making me sick and I’d die probably anyway from a secondary illness caused by the chemotherapy. So- I told the doctor’s “Thanks for the advice but NO THANKS. I think I’ll try it my own way.” From there the doctors pretty much wrote me off as a dead man walking. BUT- still I went on to treat the cancer using my holistic approach with cannabis and by the end of 2018 I got the news that I was cancer free. I beat the cancer on my own by using my holistic approach. The doctors could not believe it. Till this day they don’t believe it. I treated myself by using RSO – Rick Simpson Oil and dosed multiple times a day. RSO by the way is a Condensed form of medical cannabis oil and cures almost all forms of cancers because cancer feeds off sugar and RSO stops the growth. I’m also a Veteran and suffer from PTSD. Cannabis is regarded as a well- known treatment for those with PTSD. The Bakery Genetics has treated hundreds of Military Veterans with PTSD by growing for them and even domestic violence survivors who also have PTSD.
Wow, aside from cancer and PTSD what other illness has cannabis been known to effectively help?
N: Cannabis has been known to help treat symptoms of Cancer, Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Insomnia, autoimmune diseases, PTSD, Depression and Anxiety, Seizure disorders, Autism, Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s , Mental Illness , ADHD. I myself have some form of autism which affects me socially and my moods at types but the cannabis has been a truly holistic and effective treatment for my anxiety and the symptoms. Our mission really is to help. Seeds that are recommended for each illness can be found on seed finders. We currently are working with the following seed bank:

Can you explain the process of growing? Is it a month’s long process?
From the time you get the seeds in the mail to flowering the plants, it’s about a 4-5 month process from start to finish. When the seeds come you need to really pay close attention to the germination period. The Germination period consist of taking the seeds and putting them in a paper-towel and then on heat plates. You soak the seeds wrapped in paper-towel for around 18 hours which you place in a plastic bag. Within 12 hours you’ll have a root. Within 2-3 days you’ll start to see a plant. The plant needs about 6-8 weeks to grow and by the 6th week you can tell the sex of the plant. Female plants are valued higher as they produce medicine.
