On Sunday, February 20th, a music concert was held at Knitting Factory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn showcasing a number of New York based Hip Hop artists who had each performed several tracks of their own original Hip Hop songs. Although all performances were top tier, Nems‘ performance was the highlight of the concert.

Other performers included Eddie Kane, Rim, ATM & Six The Don, along with other special guests. The event was hosted by a well-known radio personality, The Heavy Hitters, Pretty Lou. DJ Fat Fingaz and Scram Jones provided the sounds for the event.

Also known as Gorilla Nems, the artist and host made a name for himself in music and is definitely no stranger to collaborations. He has worked with Ghostface Killah, Sean Price, Kool G-Rap, and many other noteworthy artists.

Nems hails from Coney Island, Brooklyn. He rose to fame on the internet with the catchphrase “Bing Bong” that was said during an online one-minute street interview YouTube show called Side Talk NYC that he hosted. This particular street interview clip that was done in Coney Island went viral on different social media platforms, especially on TikTok and Instagram. “Bing Bong” became so popular that even President Joe Biden and the Jonas Brothers along with many other famous celebrities like Lil Nas X were seen reciting this epic street interview.

At first, Nems used the Bing Bong catchphrase about a year ago to promote clothing merch on Instagram and his single “Bing Bong” a few months before the well received interview. The interview generated a billion+ views on TikTok.

“His teenage fans recently created a new wave of attention by sharing Nems’ New York Knicks’ jingle “Bing Bong,” viral social media clips, and his latest album, CONGO.”

In a short span of time, Gorilla Nems managed to attract a loyal fanbase that continually shares his work on social media, which garnered him more exposure. In addition to that, Nems is a major contributing factor in the Hip Hop and Rap community. Recently, Nems was invited by Diddy and RevoltTV to host the 3rd season of The Crew league. It is a charity basketball celebrity tournament lead by Chris Brown.

What sets Nems apart from other new artists is his willingness to guide and promote members of his community using his social media platforms. Nems helped a homeless man named TJ rent an apartment by establishing a GoFundMe which generated close to $40,000. TJ was a very integral part of why the street  interview went viral because of Joe Biden’s reference.

Nems never ignores his fans which is extremely admirable. Bolstered by the success of his remarkable rise to stardom Nems,is indeed a hometown hero.
