Somebody call Lucious Lyon pronto.
On Monday morning, 26-year-old actor Bryshere Gray, most popularly known for his role as Hakeem Lyon on the hit series, “Empire,” was arrested at his Goodyear, Arizona home for domestic violence after allegedly assaulting his wife.
Goodyear Police say that they responded to a call on Sunday outside of a Circle K not far from the couple’s home. The call came from a “good Samaritan” who was assisting another woman, who police identified as Gray’s wife. She told officers her newlywed husband had assaulted her over the course of several hours inside their home. The woman claimed that he strangled her to the point of temporary unconsciousness and had visible bruises on her body.
When law enforcement went to Gray’s home at 10:15 P.M. that same night, they claimed that Gray refused to exit the residence which resulted in a nearly 8 hour standoff between the actor and Goodyear SWAT and Crisis Negotiations organization. Gray was finally taken into custody at 7 A.M. Monday morning.
Gray’s wife, who’s name has yet to be revealed, was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for various visible injuries throughout her body and eventually released from the facility.
Gray was charged with aggravated assault, assault, and disorderly conduct.
Gray has found himself in multiple run-ins with the law recently. Last year, the 26-year-old was arrested in Chicago for operating a vehicle without proper registration and earlier this year, he was arrested yet again following a food-throwing incident with a 7-Eleven clerk.
Gray appeared to be on a promising path, with his “Empire” role landing him another major gig portraying Micheal Bivins in the 2016 highly regarded “The New Edition Story.” He even went on to achieve music success with his popular single “Chasing the Sky.”
As the saying goes, the higher they climb, the harder they fall. Hopefully, this will serve as the wakeup call that the promising star needs to restore order within his life.
