Comedian D.L. Hughley has tested positive for COVID-19 after collapsing on stage during his standup performance on Friday night at Nashville’s Zanies comedy club.
“It turns out they ran a battery of tests, and I also tested positive for COVID-19, which blew me away,” Hughley revealed in a video which was posted to his Twitter account soon after being released from Saint Thomas hospital in Nashville. “I was what they call asymptomatic, I didn’t have any symptoms, the class symptoms I didn’t have.” He went on to add, “I want to thank them for taking such good care of me.”
In footage from the show, Hughley is seen just minutes before collapsing slurring his speech before falling to the ground before being carried from the stage by his manager and other staff.
“He was suffering from exhaustion after all the week’s work and travel, and was kept overnight at the hospital for tests under doctor’s orders. He is awake and feeling better, and wishes to thank everyone for the very kind prayers and thoughts,” Hughley’s representative told The Hollywood Reporter.
Hughley said that while he still has not exhibited the usual symptoms attributed to COVID-19, he still plans to quarantine in his Nashville hotel room for 14 days.
Let’s hope for a speedy recovery for one of our King’s of Comedy.
