Compton Artist Leon Ross Talks Exclusively With HHW

Introduce yourself to our readers, let them know your name and where you’re from

My name is Leon Ross. I was born & raised in Compton, California.  I appreciate where I come from Cause it made me the man I am. Never fold, no matter what. 💯

Why did you start to do music?

I started doing music because it was an outlet for me to express myself. I held so much inside on a daily basis it was a relief to be able to go to the studio & leave it there. As a man we’re taught to “Be men & deal with it”. Music has always been my therapy. It’s been even more therapeutic creating it.

When did you know that it was actually going to be your career?

Honestly, I’ve always been involved in so many different things I never knew which talent I’d actually make a career out of. But I will say I knew that God wanted me to do music when a deacon in my church told me not to stop doing music, just change who I do music for. For awhile after my son was born I gave up music because I didn’t want to make music that destructed my people, all while  trying to be a positive light in my son’s life. So when the deacon got word I gave it up, he encouraged me to continue, just with a more positive message. At that moment I knew this is what God wanted me to do.

If you could get advice from any artist in the industry, who would it be and why?

I have a lot to learn. I always view myself as a student of the game, no matter how old I get. I don’t really have 1 person in particular in the industry that I look up to. I’m sure once I start building relationships with different artists It will happen over time where I trust & value another artsit’s view on things. Until then I’ll continue doing me, building my empire & keeping God 1st.

What or who influences your music?

Life influences my music. The path God he has me on. What he’s brought me to & through. I try to keep my music as real as possible without switching up like a lot of Artists. My music is more testimonial than anything.

Has anyone helped you or guided you in getting your foot in the industry?

My big bro, Houston’s own, Ty Scott has always motivated me & guided me as a person & an Artist. Since I was a young bull he was there connecting me with the right people & showing me “the ropes” in this business.

How many albums have you recorded?

I Have 2 Albums, a ton of Mixtapes & Miscellaneous songs I haven’t done anything with. I’ve been doing music for so long, yet I’ve been doing it off & on. I’m the king of unfinished projects. I start something, then I’m working on something completely different next week. I’m more focused now than I’ve ever been.

What differentiates you from other artist?

Everyone says they’re different, but I’m really different. I LOVE GOD. My music reflects that. But I’m also HONEST with myself. I’m a work in progress. I still sin… A LOT. I’m a work in progress. God knows where I was as a person & I’m a completely different person now. I’ve came a long way & I still have a long way to go.

How can artist looking for features get in contact with you?

I’m always down for a feature. My Email is Or just dm me on IG @LeonRossOneHunnit I’m pretty good at checking my DM.

What do you hope to get out of your involvement in the music industry?

I want people to be comfortable in their skin as Believers in Christ. I found myself becoming more spiritual than religious over the years, although I was raised in a Baptist Church. People are scared to come to Christ because they fear they have to give up all their unholy ways & try to live a perfect life. In my personal opinion you can come to God without trying to be perfect. Only God is perfect. I know & see a lot of Christians who yell you how to live your live, then turn around & sin freely behind closed doors. If we going to be real, let’s be real. If we’re going to be imperfect, let’s be honest to ourselves about it & try our best to be our best.
