Coach KG – the self-made music artist from Memphis, Tenn. – appropriately dubbed his latest hit single, “Mission.”
More than 100K listeners joined his “Mission” within the first two weeks of its release date in July on all digital platforms. The beat gets the attention and the story captures the heart as more and more fans get to know Coach KG – Kevin Lee Green.
“It’s crazy how it’s taken off – it’s gotten a lot of positive looks,” Coach KG said. “I hope people have an open ear to it and realize it’s just one [track]. It’s had a great start and it ain’t slowing down any time soon. I appreciate all the love from Memphis. It’s all a Coach can ask for.”
Coach KG had humble beginnings, as listeners will learn from “Mission.” Even so, it wasn’t easy to leave his Memphis home for Seattle but that’s how he gained new perspectives and inspiration to pursue new dreams.
“I see the music industry a good way to create thoughts and visuals,” Coach KG said. “It’s good for people to know where I’m from and what it was like. A lot of times people in athletics get down when it doesn’t work out, and people need a visual when they can’t play the game. They need to know of other ways they can make their life work.”
His sound has a smooth, steady tone, and especially his newest single, is influenced by some of his favorite artists: Yo Gotti, 8Ball, MJG and Rod Wave.
“When I first started I didn’t know how to record, and I looked at some of his stuff,” Coach KG said, of Rod Wave. “I record better with just me and the engineer, just like him. I create Trap music and Drill music, but also music for women and people who are just having a bad day and can’t find no luck. I want to touch on all things in the industry, and I want people to understand that Coach KG is versatile.”
His passion and platform – Coaching On All Phases – derives from his message to young athletes to think of themselves beyond their sport. Coach KG said he had to learn he was more than football – he’s also a family man, a leader and a Rap/Hip Hop artist. Before diving into the music industry, he established a kids training program called KG URBAN Athletics. He says through all the phases of his life, he’s always strived to coach and influence the lives around him in a positive way.
“Believe and have self-confidence,” he said. “Through all the phases this world can give us, you gotta coach them to believe to follow their dreams – there ain’t nothing you can’t do.”
