Misogyny towards women rappers has been the topic of discussion over the past few days over backlash and criticism amid at Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s new single “WAP.” Men have previously criticized female rap duo City Girls for their sexual lyrics and how they have frequently rapped about hustling men.
During a recent interview with The Breakfast Club, the City Girls spoke about the criticism they have received over the years about their aggressive usage of inappropriate lyrics and male opposers being frightened by women’s success in Hip Hop.
“I feel like men are just threatened by the women kinda dominating right now ’cause they so used to being in control of putting women on records,” JT shared with DJ Envy. “And now women are starting to team up and do it without them, so it’s like how they got so much to say. Because back then, you had to get on a hot song with a man to go No. One or even chart, but now women just doing it [themselves]. They gon’ always have something to say.”
She proceeds to say, “I think it’s just like a threat. They want to say it’s trash, it’s not good; it’s just about sex, sex, sex. But I can’t say I’m about to finna go ’round shooting nobody’s block because I’m not going to shoot up anybody’s block. I’m just going to talk about how good my p**** is or how I feel about myself.”
Yung Miami was extremely vocal towards Charlamagne Tha God’s question in regards to naysayers of women rapping about sex.
“I say shut the f*** up, period,” she said. “I will just be feeling like they want attention … [Rappers] been talking about this for years, so why’s it a problem now?”
