Breezy season has begun!
After much anticipation, Chris Brown spins the block to unleash his 10th studio album titled, BREEZY. Without a doubt, Chris is a living legend and a music mogul. Having over 15 years in the game is impressive to say the least, and CB does not appear to be pumping the brakes anytime soon. Since Brown’s Indigo album dropped three years ago – fans have been wondering what the multi-faceted artist would do next. His last album, Indigo was released in 2019, featured hit singles such as ”Wobble Up”, with Nicki Minaj and G-Eazy, “No Guidance” featuring Drake, and “Heat” featuring Gunna.
As a result, Indigo was Brown’s third number-one album in the United States and his first in seven years, following 2012’s Fortune.
He continues to produce extensive and well crafted, double disc drop offs with an endless amount of timeless tracks since the arrival of his 2017, Heartbreak On A Full Moon.
With us abruptly transitioning to this new world with COVID-19 over the last two years and counting, time appears to have been at a standstill but in fact, time has been timing. With that being said, Chris took the time to delve deeper into his craft and has returned to kick off the summer vibes!
Served up as his first solo album in the last three years, Chris didn’t come to play! In fact, this new project has put the game in a chokehold. Once again proving that there’s no limits for Chris Brown. The fresh new album includes star-studded features from Lil Durk, Bryson Tiller, Tory Lanez, H.E.R., Ella Mai, Blxst, Lil Baby and more! Additionally, the 24-track collection consists of sizzling singles like “Call Me Every Day” featuring the AfroBeats Wizard-WizKid, and “Psychic,” which features Jack Harlow and Breezy bringing summertime vibes, while Lil Wayne delivers one of his “hardest verses,” on “Possessive” according to Chris.
Additionally, the multitalented musician, a series of singles leading up to the release, including “WE (Warm Embrace),” which features Normani. In addition to unveiling “Iffy” as a bonus track. In fact, both bangers are accompanied by vibrant visuals. Being the music mogul he is, Chris admits to recording approximately 250 records before reducing the total to 24 tracks. When speaking to Big Boy about the project, Chris Brown goes in to say:
“The features that I did have, they’re people that I have a natural, genuine relationship with and people that I feel are very talented…”
With each release, Chris continues to elevate and outperform himself. Since his start on the scene, Breezy has achieved something of an OG status in the industry. Also, with the way he is keeping up the momentum with his self-motivated work ethic — Chris is unstoppable!
Although music isn’t like it was back in the day, during R&B’s darkest era to date, Chris Brown has been the genre’s biggest (and most years, ONLY) mainstream star. Throughout the years, Breezy has switched up his flows, not only showcasing his versatility, but letting it be known that he can go up against some of the hottest and hardest out!
For an entire generation, Chris Brown has been the face of R&B. Abandoning his traditional R&B sound for the ever-present, and ever trendy, rap-sung delivery, Chris understood the assignment and delivered! Also with his dismissal of traditional album structure – ignoring the usual 45-minute, 15 track design for 40-track drop offs isn’t easy, but Chris does it effortlessly. While it’s great for boosting numbers on streaming sites and spamming Billboard charts, it’s difficult to do so while assuring you are producing a solid body of work. Not for Chris though, he saw, he came, he conquered! While Chris may be the most recognized, best-selling star in R&B, even he felt it was time for a change.
BREEZY brings a bit of a fresh sound and presentation while also blending in the familiar sounds of Chris we all know and love. For instance, the catchy “C.A.B.” single features a solid guest verse from Fivio Foreign, before transitioning into his typical sex-crazed tracks like “Addicted” featuring Lil Baby, the mid tempo “Pitch Black” and the cuts named after oral sex noises like on “Hmhmm”.
For the second half of the project, “Passing Time” oozes with 80s vibes while “WE (Warm Embrace)” transports us to the 90s, courtesy of a well-done sample of Guy’s “Let’s Chill.” Sampling a hit almost always works as it resonates with the masses bringing together different eras and providing spins to some of music’s biggest hits! As for the upbeat “Forbidden”, it begs for a video treatment as it is undeniably entertaining. It sounds like something out of Cousin Chris’ Exclusive days. Next up is Chris’ “Harder” — the spiritual successor to D’Angelo’s “How Does It Feel”. This track will undoubtedly have everyone talking and it’s great to hear Chris singing again. Overall, this project is a vibe, thanks to his willingness to step outside of his comfort zone and try new things.
Leading up to the album’s release, Chris Brown has had one hell of a press run. In doing so, he was featured on Million Dollaz Worth Of Game podcast and Big Boy’s Neighborhood, amongst many other stops. In the sit-down with Gillie & Wallo, CB discussed one particular collaboration he wants to fulfill — Beyonce.
“Probably Beyoncé…only because of what that would look like, we really do a dope song with both of us dancing in it… That would be dope, like a check off my to-do list. She’s probably the only one I haven’t worked with. I’m not turning it down.”
While that would be a hell of a collaboration and one we’ve been waiting on for forever, it seems as though the wait continues. Both mainstream moguls recently released new music, so hopefully fans can expect a collaboration from the two in the near future. Until then, press play on Chris Brown’s latest offering, BREEZY, and let us know what you think!
