Introduce yourself to our readers! Let them know your name, where you’re from.
Chapi, I’m from the Bronx!
How long have you been doing music?
I’ve been doing music for 4 years, however, last year I decided to tap into my Dominican heritage and started writing Latin music. I made this crossover to expand my skills as an artist.
What inspired you to get involved with music?
My stepfather and his friends have really influenced me to rap. When I was younger I would hear them spitting lyrics and they would always encourage me to rap. Eventually, I started taking it more seriously and decided to give it a try.
What was that moment in life when you knew this was going to be your career?
I decided this was my career when I realized I had a gift. When I create my music I don’t write anything down. My process is all mental memory and I know not many people can accomplish that. I also quickly discovered being bilingual is a blessing that allows both English and Spanish-speaking people to enjoy my songs.
You’re from the Bronx, the birthplace of Hip Hop, do you feel in extra pressure to be successful?
I feel a little pressure but that’s not necessarily because I’m from the Bronx, but more because this opportunity can change my family lives.
You’re a Latin Drill artist, what type of flavor are you bringing to the Drill scene?
I’m bringing sweet, spice and everything nice. Consider me the Spanish Pop Smoke because I’m bringing Spanish Drill mainstream.
Has anyone helped you get your foot in the door?
I can’t really say that anyone helped me put my foot through the door just yet because I’m still building. I don’t like to name drop, however, there are a few industry veterans helping me along my journey.
What do you expect to get out of the music industry?
Wealth and Knowledge are the two main goals I’d like to achieve. So I can grow into the best version of myself wherever life takes me
You get the chance to collaborate on a song and make a hit record with any 2 rappers.one dead, one alive, who would it be?
Juice Wrld and Drake are definitely in my top 2
If you had a chance to record with any producer, who would it be?
808 Mello for Spanish Drill, It’ll be good for the culture
Who are your TOP 5 artists of ALL TIME Dead or Alive?
Off the top of my head, two goats are Drake and Bad Bunny, then Biggie Smalls, Snoop Dogg and I can’t forget about Jay-Z either.
What’s next for Chapi?,
What is next for me, new music. I’m dropping my new single “Chappi” along with the visuals. I’m looking forward to making more music the people will love.
