After watching the video, it’s clear to see why CANYON is an artist from New York who is on the rise, and that he’s someone you should have on your radar. He is fierce, gritty, and full of lyrical prowess, showcasing his talents and skill in every release he has. With a work ethic like the one he has, he’ll go straight to the top and make his presence known.
As far as his background, CANYON’s a newcomer to the game but he’s already been putting in the work. In a recent interview, CANYON explained that he knew it was his time to commit to his musical journey when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, spending his entire 2021 writing and making his debut album. With just three singles out, “Shark Tank,” starring Raekwon, a collaboration track with Jadakiss, “Reservations,” and his most recent release “IN THE PAINT,” — CANYON is accompanied by some pretty legendary co-signs. This time around, CANYON’s proving why his debut project in 2022 will be the most anticipated.
“The pandemic gave me a lot of time, and solidarity made me look deep down inside to figure out what I wanted,” CANYON said. “From there, I plotted how to get there. I’m not even close to where I’m aiming for, but the process has begun.”
CANYON has already proven his versatility is the biggest takeaway from his sound. From channeling a narrative flow that Raekwon is known for on “Shark Tank” to hopping on “Reservations,” which is infamously from the start of the record a Jadakiss sound, to going back and forth with Mvthabrain on “IN THE PAINT,” CANYON proves that he can keep up and offers a raw talent that adds grit to the game. He’s capable of rapping anthems and delivering high-energy tracks, proving his mastery of rap and adaptation of sound. Raekwon and Jadakiss have stated that after working with CANYON, he is someone to keep an eye out for in the future, reflecting on his journey in the last year writing and producing his forthcoming album.
“Kid’s got talent,” Raekwon said. “I was happy to be chosen to rock with him early on, look out for em!“
According to CANYON, Jadakiss has also messaged him some words of encouragement.
“All of these big co-signs have been surreal for me, having grown up looking up to these guys and loving all of their music,” CANYON said.
“IN THE PAINT” features an energetic sound that has a defiant tone to it, and the visual matches the lyrics perfectly.
The song channels a free-thinking, and almost-rebellious sort of theme pretty expertly, as there are elements of rawness, raspy-refinement, and reflection, contrasted with a radical 90’s New York influence.
